Mining At Iron Knob

Image
Leaving Port Augusta, heading west towards Penong we went pass a mining town of Iron Knob. BHP mines these mountain for iron ore. Went pass a few years ago almost deserted,  but know they seem very busy with mining took pics, made video to share.

Sunset at a Rest Area west of Penong.

Enjoying our stay West of Penong SA. Sunset beautiful, I was riding my mountain bike to get some great photos. I made a video to share this experience from the campsite. Part of the reason to travel is the freedom and peace which can energize you and make you very calm. What a way to see the end of another day in your life. Good feeling.

Cold Morning Penong SA

Image
I awoke to a  cold morning at the rest area just west of Penong SA named by the  Wirangu Aboriginal    meaning rock hole. As you enter the town you see lots of windmills that are still working. These windmill pump there water supply from the  Anjutabie water Basin.  It is 3.6°c ice and fog on the fields, sun up and trying to defog the fields, this made a spectacular view. Photo opportunity to share. My camper trailer has a diesel heater 21°c inside nice and toasty. It looks like a pleasant day ahead.

The town of Kimba enroute to Penong

Image
While traveling through the town of Kimba so much to see we start off with the Silo Art in town, photo opportunity,  then up to a lookout via gravel road to see sculptures of Edward John Eyre, which the Eyre Highway was named after. Then we went for a drive to see The Big Galah at a roadhouse on the main road. We also drove out pass a little town of Minnipa to the Pildappa Rock which is simular to the Wave Rock of Western Australia. The Pildappa Rock is a must go to visit for us travellers, there is about 15klm of gravel road but was in good condition. It is a one way traffic around the rock with picnic tables and camping area at the base of the rock. It is amazing what you come across in such an isolated area.

Camping around Australia my travel journey has begun.

Starting a travel blog of where we are currently at a rest area in South Australia about 20 Klms outside of the town Penong. We are camping in our camper trailer in a Bush style setting fully self contained, enjoying the environment.  Campfires a great way to keep warm as night time temps down to 5°c. Watching the sunset , photo opportunity. The current journey will take us into Western Australia and upto Broome exploring the route on the way.
