Heat Wave @ Herbert Park

Image
Well we have had some more upgrades to do before setting off. Still at Herbert Park on the banks of the Yule River which is dry sand.  Gay-Maree has a new T shirt she likes for camping. Yes we have only started into the spring season and we are experiencing a heat wave, 42°c yesterday sitting in the truck air-conditioning.  The southern part of Australia is freezing. Currently while writing it is 36°c, expecting 38°c today already very hot.  The portable airconditioning Zero Breeze has been keeping us comfortable, even though room temperature is 28.7°c when going to bed.  Well we have a big 2.6kw air conditioner but went to start the Gentrax 3.5kw generator not even 12 month old which has died on me, it will start but keeps throwing the overload switch, and cutting out even though nothing connected.  A faulty switch on a Chinese geno not surprised, but has been unreliable since we bought it.  We feel it is not worth throwing anymore money at it to get repaired. The warranty is only on

Managing Climate Change While Camping.

The weather and the environment is forever changing. While our doorway to camping OZ down under provides a few challenges, living out of our camper trailer.  I would like to share with you some of our ideas that we implemented to deal with the harsh climate of change.  The  two main extremes of weather is the heat and the cold and how to deal with that. Most travelers move to a warmer climate heading north in winter and going south in summer, this is still the best approach to deal with climate change, but sometimes you are caught in heatwaves or extremely cold situation that you need to manage.  Dealing with the cold is easier when living off the grid as warming yourself via a campfire is a good effective way to keep warm.  There is also warm clothing gloves or beanies to keep warm. We have found 12v thermal throw rugs very effective as you can wrap them around you outside but they are a very effective electric blanket of your bed to keep you warm via 12v power, great for the camping
