Middlemount to Lake Elphinstone

Well we went into Middlemount to do some shopping and to meet up with Gaylene our friend. Gaylene is currently working in Middlemount. Husband Graeme out working in the mining area.

A big hello Graeme from Gay-maree and Barry.

This is a lovely mining town, with a lot of facilities. Me an Jools sitting in the park area waiting for Gay-maree to do the shopping .




Next town Nebo, well we left Middlemount an not far up the road we got stuck behind a wide load 8.5 metres wide taking both sides of the road with police escort all the way to Nebo before passing. 

Nebo looks a big town but never got to explore as the police was ready to move another wide load again and we didn't want to be stuck behind again.

On the way to Lake Elphinstone we had another holdup, cowboys and cow girls moving cattle across the road.

Now on entering the campgrounds you go over a cattle grid, this is a huge area. The lake is down a bit and when the wind blows the right way there is a stench smell from rotting seaweed or algie blooms. Not nice.  






We setup the camper trailer  for the night. This is a beautiful area, with vista views only the smell from the lake spoils it.

Well only just an overnight stay it is time to seek out more adventure.

Staying At Bringo Lookout.

We left Indarra Siding and onto Geraldton about 71km out.  On the way west we pulled into the Bringo Lookout to check it out, at the time workmen were fixing some potholes on the driveway but said they would be finished for the evening.  So we said will come back after going to Geraldton. While at Geraldton did some shopping, the town is very RV friendly as I could park in their car park with camper trailer for 2 hour free this was very useful.  Went to the fuel station top up the tanks then onto the Bringo Lookout to stay a couple of days before moving on. This place has great views at night the town of Geraldton lights up.  We have had showers of rain go pass to, but still very tranquil at the lookout.  The eve is upon us and the lights of Geraldton are on, it still cloudy and overcast but it is a good time for photo opportunities to share with you the sights at night hope you enjoy the photos.  ...

Carcoar Dam.

We stayed a few months at Carcoar Dam, many things happen we came down from our Nephew Andrew's Wedding, then got caught up in Covid19 pandemic state borders closing at the same time as Gay-Maree father passed away, couldn't get over the border, then about another 2 weeks later they open the state borders, Gay-Maree mother took sick, Gay-Maree caught a flight to Coolingatta airport 3hours before the state borders closed again for a 3days lockdown of Brisbane and surrounding areas. Know Brisbane a hotspot area there was a worry Gay-Maree might not get back to me without a 14 day quarantine period, but luckily they eased everything for Easter, Gay-Maree got back without issues. Over the time here many high wind events rain events, chilling cold events in summer and autumn. In April nights down to -1.0°C daytime 11°C very cold. So we had a great position of the Carcoar Dam from the door of our camper trailer many morning viewing, and sunset viewing.  Boats on the water most weeken...

Uranium Mine - Mary Kathleen.

Still camping at the old Mary Kathleen Townsite, my friend Graeme wanted to checkout the old Uranium Mine he has already been there before, but he decided to re check the old site out and invited me and jools along. It is only 7klms down the road which is bitumen so far with lots of deep potholes, and gravel road to the entrance. On entry you can see old concrete areas where boom gates for security would have been.  There is lots of concrete kerbing you can see, where old buildings once stood. Driving around there is plenty of evidence of dump areas were big rocks being dump when the mine was operating.  We found huge concrete stands where the rock  crushers would have stood.
