On The Way To Middle Mount

Well after a relaxing time at Lake Victoria by the way temps down to 7•C overnight woke up this morning as sun rising and a light mist on the lake. Very fresh this am I took some pics.













Ok unfortunately time to pack up and travel again.

The plan was to head to Gracemere an outer suburb of Rockhampton as there was a Woolworths shopping area there, but wouldn't you know, nowhere to park the truck and camper trailer inside the parking area or out on the streets.  This isn't a RV friendly shopping centre so off I drove without shopping there.

Now travelling to the West, we came across a small town of Westwood. They have free camping at the hall and a great pie van next to this area. I must say this is the most tastiest pie that I have ever eaten. It was worth visiting the town just for the pies.




Next town called Duaringa has a very big free camping area as you enter the town there was a lot of RV staying there. The area for camping is huge and well maintained. 

Next town Dingo, Caltex Roadhouse 24hrs offering free camping at the back of the service station. 

Turning off at Dingo heading to Middlemount this is a long stretch of road with not a lot of area to stop.

So tonight we pulled into a gravel pit on the side of the road. This area is also used by road trains as they come in for a rest.








Well a noisy night, trucks going through and passed. This is a very busy road. To top that off this morning we had a helicopter land in the gravel pit on top of a truck looks like a mobile landing platform then took off again, lots of dust.

Staying At Bringo Lookout.

We left Indarra Siding and onto Geraldton about 71km out.  On the way west we pulled into the Bringo Lookout to check it out, at the time workmen were fixing some potholes on the driveway but said they would be finished for the evening.  So we said will come back after going to Geraldton. While at Geraldton did some shopping, the town is very RV friendly as I could park in their car park with camper trailer for 2 hour free this was very useful.  Went to the fuel station top up the tanks then onto the Bringo Lookout to stay a couple of days before moving on. This place has great views at night the town of Geraldton lights up.  We have had showers of rain go pass to, but still very tranquil at the lookout.  The eve is upon us and the lights of Geraldton are on, it still cloudy and overcast but it is a good time for photo opportunities to share with you the sights at night hope you enjoy the photos.  ...

Carcoar Dam.

We stayed a few months at Carcoar Dam, many things happen we came down from our Nephew Andrew's Wedding, then got caught up in Covid19 pandemic state borders closing at the same time as Gay-Maree father passed away, couldn't get over the border, then about another 2 weeks later they open the state borders, Gay-Maree mother took sick, Gay-Maree caught a flight to Coolingatta airport 3hours before the state borders closed again for a 3days lockdown of Brisbane and surrounding areas. Know Brisbane a hotspot area there was a worry Gay-Maree might not get back to me without a 14 day quarantine period, but luckily they eased everything for Easter, Gay-Maree got back without issues. Over the time here many high wind events rain events, chilling cold events in summer and autumn. In April nights down to -1.0°C daytime 11°C very cold. So we had a great position of the Carcoar Dam from the door of our camper trailer many morning viewing, and sunset viewing.  Boats on the water most weeken...

Dalrymple National Park.

Well my friend and travel guide Graeme decided to show me the Dalrymple National Park.  He told me of a story that the farmer who use to own the land where the Fletcher Creek rest area is now, was riding a horse and fell and was impale by a stick. A  camper who was camping by the river at the time heard the farmer cry for help, the man with a medical background who saved his life. When he died he willed this land to the council, and now is a a campground for the public called Fletcher Creek campgrounds. We headed towards Fletchers Creek rest area as the entrance to the park is access this way. Down the track before the entrance to the park there was a stone memorial with a tree stump on top with a "L" marking a significant tree which was destroyed in 1922 by a bushfire. Early explorers camp here in 1845 and is now marked as West Hill Camp and explorer Leichhardt marked the tree with the letter L and remained until the tree was burnt down.
