Camping at Peter Denny Lookout.

We packed down at Ford Run rest area and started to head north got as far as Leinster and headed west towards the town of Sandstone about 40km east of town we came upon a good rest area called The Peter Denny lookout.

This site has some history officially open August 21, 1999. This site was dedicated to Peter John Denny who was the President of the shire of Sandstone 1995 to 1997.

Vista views of sandstone outcrops in a sunken area made a good doorway view to this campsite.  We collected wood for our campfire tonight and setup the camper trailer.

Photo opportunity this area is exhilarating.

It's late afternoon the sun is going down in the west, casting long shadows from the trees and sandstone outcrops across the valley this view is spectacular.  A cool breeze is blowing indicating it will be a very cold night,  hopefully the campfire will keep us warm.

The night skies are beautiful, star watching I can see planets Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and also a near full moon.

Well the campfire is just a pile of red coals I think it's time to go inside for the night. It has been very tranquil by the fire looking at the night skies but now its time to look at my eyelids, goodnight.

The Next Day

We have decided to stay a few days at this location. I started the Morning by going hiking along a fence line walking over sandstone and rocks going through heavily dense trees and bushes I covered about 3km, then back home for breakfast.

Mid Morning we had visitors, fellow travelers,  then I decided to setup the satellite dish for internet as no mobile service in this area. We have an ANT portable satellite which we aligned to Optus D1 satellite 160°E . This allows a WiFi connection to be established. Slow internet is better than no internet.

Then I collected some wood, walking through th bush carrying branches back to campsite, I then decided to use the chainsaw and trolley much easier and allows more wood to be collected.

I put out the solar panels to collect the energy that we use for today. I am using two set of 300w foldable panels using extra Anderson leads to make 10m away from the truck where I have 4 130amp/h battery bank as a backup supply for the camper trailer.  The camper trailer has another 2 130amp/h batteries.

The Following Day.

Started the morning off with a hike climbing down the rock face to get to the bottom valley, it is white sand down there. Hiking along the sandstone cliffs it was photo opportunity time again. Walking through the shrubs to the other side the outermost sandstone outcrops was the place I most wanted to get too.

Climbing the steep side of the sandstone cliffs I had concerns but I saw kangaroo trails up there. I was thinking if they can get up there so can I.

Once I arrived at that outermost sandstone outcrop, I had a feeling of exhilleration, great to be alive feeling, the views is a vista view mountain ranges in the distance,  sandstone outcrops popping up everywhere and the bush.

Talk to some fellow travelers who stated that he was doing the same at another area as he was coming back up he wrong footed and fell. Bruising his side, and a broken rib.

Accidents can happen but you can't let it dampen your exploring experience.

Time for a late breakfast, oatmeal and golden syrup yum! Then another traveler comes in to talk.

Time to collect some wood for our campfire tonight. I took the axe and trolley to collect the wood. There is plenty but getting the trolley back definitely pose some issues as ground very rocky an unlevel.
