On The Way to Broome.

Mail arrived, we will leave the Yule River and head north. Packed down the day before and sleep in our new swag, just to getaway a bit early, not fighting the heat of the day. Before leaving we met a young man called Arith, who is cycling Australia, he stopped for lunch and had a chat.

Well we are packed ready to go only 09:30hrs. We went into Port Headland, rechecked the mail collected water and fuel and visited the Koombana Lookout, great views of the ocean and the port where ships were waiting to dock.

Lots of construction happening all around Port Hedland as it is expanding.

Now we took the turnoff towards the airport and headed north. Lots of mining site scattered all over the landscape. The rest area called De-Greys river camp has been closed due to a biohazard.

Most of the rest area are mainly truck stops on this stretch of road. We stopped at the Pardoo Roadhouse,

then up the road further pulled into a rest area for lunch not much shade, found a little shade under a small tree where I put our reclining chairs to have lunch. It was a nice break but was getting very hot, back into the truck air conditioning checked the outside temp now 42°c.

Now heading north we see the turn off to eighty mile beach, no dogs allowed, so on we went to Sandfire Roadhouse

On entering the roadhouse Gay-Maree could see a peacock crossing the road and Gay-Maree set off with camera to get photos of the peacock who actually love having his picture taken.

Gay-Maree went into the roadhouse picked up some drinks, now back onto the road heading north and we see Arith on the side of the road on his push bike. We stopped to say hello and to see if he was alright as the temp 42°c. It was good to see him and he was telling us of his past 2 days adventure cycling the road, well we left him with chilled water and some snacks as you cannot carry a lot on a push bike. Gay-Maree tried to entice him with a lift but he preferred to ride his push bike.

Now it was onto our overnight camp site at the Stanley rest area, about 250klms from Broome.

We found a nook off the rest area to setup the swag for the night. It turned out to be a good stay and we packed the setup down early as the heat of the day started early.
