Our Journey to the Pallinup River Nature Reserve.

Our journey started after packing up the camper trailer and headed toward the town Mt Barker, the travel was through Conservation forest area where they grow trees for timber collecting and move them by road trains. There are a lot of logging trucks on the road.

We drove into the town of Mt Barker, a big town with lack of parking. Pulled into the visitor center very well laid out, easy parking for big rigs beautiful lawns manicured, very clean.

Now onto the town of Albany, a town by the ocean, very hilly and steep road climb through town, a lot of speed bumps and roadabouts making you come to a complete stop up a steep grade of road through the center of town. This was not a lot of fun driving a truck with a camper trailer in tow 7 ton up steep grades managed it but the town centre not that RV friendly.
Albany has lots of historical buildings. We collected our mail and tried to shop at Woolworths at Dog Rock, but nowhere to park after making several passes through the shopping center. At the top of the hill a rock that is shaped some what of a labrador retriever dogs head?
Luckily for us on the way out of town another Woolworths and this one has thought of being RV friendly by making a area for large vehicles. I took a picture out of the mirror to show you.
Down by the foreshore near Lawly Park you can see the silo art painted on the silos. It looks like a sea horse with imagination.
Now stocked up with supplies we headed out of town heading towards Esperance.

As going out of town there was a turnoff to Betty's Beach, bitumen road most of the way down then went onto unseal gravel road. The gravel road in good condition a 2wd can go down but for beach access definitely 4wd only soft sand. Beautiful coastal views.
There is free camping near the beach but rain has been forecast and it was to early in the day. Back to the main road another turn off too Cheynes Beach.

We drove down the road very high mountains like a range heading down to the coast. The road is very hilly to drive going past some wetlands coming up a steep hill all of a sudden the ocean appears, magnificent views. Photo opportunity stopping on the road nowhere to park, lucky not much traffic.
There are rows of beach homes beautiful ocean views one side the other side mountain views. Went down too the lower area at the beach can see waves coming in. Unfortunately no camping allowed.
Now this was a worthwhile turnoff that you could have easily passed by. It is now getting late our campsite for the night will be Pallinup River Nature Reserve we will stay a couple of days as rain sets in to this area.

The campsite is near the Marra Bridge opened in 1962 an is currently having repairs done. The river below has a rock river bed with water cascading over some of the rocks.
