Fitzgerald River Rest Area.
We spent the day exploring Bremer Bay and as it is now getting very late in the afternoon it is time to find our next free campsite for the night.
As the Fitzgerald River National Park is not pet friendly and excluded a member of our family we decided to free camp across the road from the National Park.
The sign designates the area as a truck stop but this is not so. The rest area is huge with bins, tables, info board and trees for shade. No toilet block, but we are fully self sufficient and we setup a portable ensuite that meets our showering and toilet needs.

However if you venture further, you will see tracks leading into the bush areas behind this stop. We venture off into the bush camp area, as you could not see our campsite from the main rest area, and is far enough away from the road noise. There is also plenty other campsites on the other side of the tracks.

This campsite provides beautiful scenery, wildlife such as birds and kangaroos. There are several walking tracks that lead down to the river but at the time of writing not much water in the river.

The river bed is rock based and the pools of water cascade over the rocks when it flows.

I use these walking tracks to keep fit and be healthy. The campsite where we setup has plenty of trees as a wind break and also providing shade. There is enough areas in the sunlight to put out the solar power to power our campsite. There is also good mobile reception with Telstra in this area, this is another plus.

We have found this place peaceful and pleasant. On the downside the flies are bad, but welcome to Australian summer's where flies are bad everywhere.
We put up a screened dome room tent and put our chairs in that, this takes care of the flies so we can enjoy the scenery. We use nets over our heads when walking this takes care of the flies.
We enjoy bush camping and prefer freedom camping as it is mainly a rule free environment allowing you to park where you like to setup and no set times to leave. Will will be staying a week waiting on mail to arrive at another destination.
Campfires are permitted but only from May to October, there is plenty of firewood also. For the other times, the use of a gas cooker works well.

Ravensthorpe is about 80klms down the road heading east, dump point, potable water, IGA and fuel available.
