Dumaresq River Campground At Texas.
This is our first adventure with Jools Our new Maltese puppy.
The Texas Campground borders the Dumaresq river which is on the river banks where you camp. We are camping on the New South Wales side at this time.
It is full with wildlife, birds, kangaroos, fish in the river, and cows too. Beautiful vista views the sun rising above the river, it is very peaceful and tranquil. Plenty of trees hugging the river bank proving shade and windbreaks.
The town of Texas only a few kilometres away. Dump point, potable water available, Post Office, Police, TMR, Foodworks and Spar, newsagent, Hospital, Hotel, RSL Memorial building, free hot showers adjacent to the post office in the main street are in town.
Some history of the town of Texas.
Texas was colonized in 1840. The land was Bilambul land, where aboriginal people resided for many of thousands of years before the colonization of the town of Texas.
The town was named after a great land dispute between the United States and Mexico called Texas. In honour of that land dipute; the town of Texas was named.
The first settlers; the McDougall brothers, found squatters on their land after returning from the goldfields which became a land dispute issue to which the town of Texas came to be..
In 1930 a rail line between the town of Inglewood and Texas was completed and Texas became the rail station. This rail line ended up closing in 1994. The main industry was tobacco farming which closed in 1986. Sheep and cattle farming are the main industries now.
While staying here we had very heavy rain as excyclone Trevor created a rainband that passed over the town of Texas.
Baby Jools has found this camp site very restful indeed.
