Dumaresq River In Drought.

Still at the campgrounds of the Dumaresq river which has had no rain in weeks. The river has stopped flowing and only small pockets of water for the wild life to survive.

I talked to fellow campers who stated they have never seen it so dry. Over the Easter break holidays campers could not use kayaks or boats as the water being too shallow. Some people used blowup mattresses as a way to float and gather some Sun rays.

The weather is still hot, day time temps of 30•, 90% humidity and very uncomfortable.

In my opinion, "I think some of the problems with the river being so low is the over use of irrigation pumps, pumping river water up to their farms. While we were there we had seen over 20 semi-trailers loaded with cotton bales on them going past the campgrounds. Cotton farmers use a lot of water for irrigation. "

As it is still very hot and sultry in this area, we were thinking, we needed more shade to make us comfortable.

So we needed to put up more shade it was time to tryout our new gazebo. It was a bit tricky first time setup without reading the instructions, but I managed. 2 different fellow campers said they really liked the gazebo.

Jools also liked the gazebo and made himself at home.

Well the locals have stated, that water is being released, from the Glen Lyon Dam, another camper stated that the water, had already being released 17 days ago, before it had reached Texas, that is how dry the Dumaresq river had become.

Well the water had finally reached us, it was good to see the Dumaresq river with water in it. The water is now flowing fast.

It was a pity that it didn't arrive for the Easter holiday break as a lot of holidaying families had taken water crafts like boats and kayaks.

Also fishing was hard as there was only small ponds of water left. This had been a disappointment for a lot of holidaying families over the Easter break.

Well the time has come for us to move on. Mail has been slow so we decided to get the mail redirected to the next township, rather than waiting for it to arrive.

The plan is to drive down to Ashford NSW visit the cafe and post office as Gay-maree got to know the people that run these areas well and wanted to say hello and have coffee and cake while we are there.

Then it was onto the town of Inverell, to fill up with diesel and onto our campsite at Copeton Dam the eastern side foreshore to setup camp.
