Archer Point, Nth Queensland.
Cooktown, North Queensland has a great free campsite to explore called Archer Point on the coast of the Annan River Resource Reserve.
Lighthouse on top of a hill, a steep ascents up a gravel road with sharp bend to the top. By the way this is also the only area to make a phone call as most of the area is in a Telstra dead zone.
Plenty of campsite hidden in little alcove and bays. One area has coconut trees and a sandy beach not that great for big rigs, but plenty of smaller places for rooftop tents and campervan.
This can be a very busy campgrounds at certain times, but if it is quiet you have a choice of some good sites.
Very tranquil watching the waves crashing on the shore, that is what Jools reckon relaxing on my lap as usual. Sea turtles poking their heads out of the water and watching distant ship going down the coast. The wind generator getting a good workout no shortage of power.
Plenty of walking trails around this area with beautiful vista views. This is freedom camping at its best except for some minor annoyances such as sea spray cover our campsite with salt and of cause mobile reception or the lack of, it is a very hilly area but you can go to the lighthouse for mobile reception.
Watching the moon coming up reflecting on the water is so beautiful. I took some pics but a bit dark.
Climbing up the side of a hill where the lighthouse is, some great views of our campsite and surrounding water.
Well we came up to meet with our friend Graeme who arrived a week earlier. Gravel road in about 11klms road in good condition, but it is a dry weather road, add water it will become slippery and boggy.
It is a good idea to explore this area at the moment it is dry weather however the coastal winds have picked up very strong. This made the camper trailer difficult to setup as the canvas tent part was trying to blow all to one side.
You know they saying, this is the thrill of living outdoors. We'll we are trying to keep the thrills to a minimum. Now the camper trailer is setup it was time to throw ropes over the roof to try and stop the flapping noise of the fly going up and down as the wind passes through.
Very wind overnight clear skies, but had a good night sleep listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.
Awakening in the morning I looked out my window to see a beautiful sunrise and I thought it would be a picture moment through the screen of the window.

Graeme our friend manage to get a good site as travellers were moving out on their journey it is a beautiful cove site which started the week with sand on top of the rocks but because it has been so windy creating a volatile wash from the ocean removed most of the sand leaving a very rocky beach.
