Cooktown Wow!
Exploring Cooktown, named after that famous Martine explorer Captain James Cook who landed there in 1770.
This is a great area to admire the views of Cooktown. Now heading down the hill, you come to a park on the esplanade, where a monument stands to acknowledge the presence of Captain James Cook made to this town.

Now it was time for lunch, Fishermens Wharf, great fish and chips and a beautiful park along the esplanade to eat our fish and chip with the usual sea gulls hanging about.
The town is well laid out for the tourist visitors to come and explore their town.
On entering the town first place to see is Grassy Hill which is a lookout, lighthouse On top spectacular views. Road up is steep, and winding as well, deffinently worth the visit..

The Cooktown cannon was requested in 1885 to help protect them from a Russian invasion that never came.
The park has several jetties for fishing, covered picnic table, electric Bbqs,water theme park for the kids, toilets, change rooms, exercising equipment and drinking fountain.
Park is very well maintained. This is a credit to the Cooktown council. This is a great place to enjoy our fish and chips.
This has been a great day trip experience, Cooktown is definitely worth the visit you would not be disappointed. Even the welcome sign greet you and said goodbye.
