Onto Tambo and Blackall.

After leaving Augathella we pulled into the town of Tambo.

After arriving into town there is a big picnic park on the bank of the Barcoo river where the water level s very low.

Tambo has a relaxed atmosphere Cattle and tourism are the major industries of the town which is the oldest town in the Central West . visitors are encouraged to wander around and enjoy a self-guided walk along the banks of the Barcoo or around the town’s historical building's.

Tambo is famous for its Teddies. The shop unfortunately is closed as it is Sunday and not many things in town are open. The shop has murals on the wall of the shop. Some pictures of the teddies shop.

Next to this shop is Fanny Mae's cafe where we got some breakfast.

Across the street resides an old fire engine called Flo.

Now onto All the next town to explore. The Welcome sign is in diagonal letters that spell Blackall.

In town there is a big kangaroo and a shop called Big Red.

Blade shearer Jack Howe put Blackall on the map in 1892 at nearby Alice Downs Station, when he set a world record by shearing 321 sheep in seven hours and 40 minutes. It took another 58 years before anyone matched this feat and this was by machine shears. Jack Howe is memorialised in a bronze sculpture that can be viewed when wandering along the Shamrock Stroll, a historical walk around the town.

The first artesian bore drilled in the outback happened at Blackall in 1885.

Now the Aquatic Centre in town has natural Artesian water for visitors to relax in after a long drive.

In this town it is known for the Black Stump and has a well known phrase beyond the Black Stump.

Blackall is the home of the Black Stump which was used for surveying purposes and permanently marks the original Astro Station established in 1887. Anything west of this point is said to be ‘beyond the black stump’.

Well now it is time to leave and head onto Barcaldine and top up the diesel in the truck.
