A Cold Front Storm.

Image
Well still at Sandy Corner rest area and yes another big cold front storm coming through from the west bringing rain with it.  We are still waiting for mail to arrive at Carnarvon WA to collect. This place at Sandy Corner has had a drenching. So we will wait till the ground firms up then on the way north to another rest area for overnight then into Carnarvon to collect the mail, pickup supplies, go to the dump point and fill the tanks with water.

My Electrical Update

Image
Well my DC setup recently had water damage due to old silicone around the antenna on the roof of the canopy allowing rain water to enter my DC setup.  The most affected was the hybrid charge controller which manages the wind generator and the solar panel it has many protection devices on the controller but water was not one of them.  Water corroded the printed circuit allowing short circuit across certain point to be affected.  Well after trying to recover the controller and failing it went into the bin.  As this mppt hybrid controller was a very good performer I choose to replace it with a new one. My other solar charge controllers which are mppt 30amps are not performing as expected so I decided to upgrade and install an 80amp solar charge controller.   The fuse box upgraded as it has a positive and negative bus bar built in to run the wires to a central point and fusing all the connections instead of all the leads being connected straight to the battery terminals. I will reroute the

Onto Sandy Corner Rest Area.

We left Bringo lookout and headed in Geraldton where will filled our water tanks, went to Woolworths and stocked up on supplies, went to BCF got the gas bottles filled and stopped in Bunnings as well. Now leaving Geraldton heading north next town Northhampton the road went through mountainous areas lush green. Western Australia was expecting a triple event of cold fronts happening soon so the plan was to set down somewhere for a few days until it was over. Stopped off at Galena Bridge rest area but it was like a caravan city about 60 caravans there considering it was only 2.30pm it was packed for a 24hr rest area. Well we did not stay in this packed area and decided to checkout other rest areas. We came across Sandy Corner, tracks leading behind the rest area away from the traffic on the road. We setup camp it is not bad towards the back area, plenty of firewood, great campfire we were happy. Well the rain came about 20mm to this area, the rain caused some damage to the backup pow

While At Bringo Lookout.

It has been raining on and off for 4days here, waiting for clear skies. Met a local farmer today who can see us from a distance and came over for a talk about our solar power system setup. He has told me he lives over on his hobby farm with no power and uses an esky that he has to go to town every second day for ice. The most ironic thing is he bought a 3kw solar kit 2yrs ago and it is in his shed still in the boxes. I asked how do you see at night he told me with a torch. I told him it is not that hard to setup this system so I will go over tomorrow and see if I can help him out by setting up some of it to generate power for him. The farmer came over in the afternoon which did not leave much time he picked me up in his ute and showed me what he calls spy hill. This is a military base that has a lookout on top of a hill. He had solar panels, charge controllers, batteries, inverter but no cables. Drawing a diagram of how the components go together and explaining where to connect th

Staying At Bringo Lookout.

We left Indarra Siding and onto Geraldton about 71km out.  On the way west we pulled into the Bringo Lookout to check it out, at the time workmen were fixing some potholes on the driveway but said they would be finished for the evening.  So we said will come back after going to Geraldton. While at Geraldton did some shopping, the town is very RV friendly as I could park in their car park with camper trailer for 2 hour free this was very useful.  Went to the fuel station top up the tanks then onto the Bringo Lookout to stay a couple of days before moving on. This place has great views at night the town of Geraldton lights up.  We have had showers of rain go pass to, but still very tranquil at the lookout.  The eve is upon us and the lights of Geraldton are on, it still cloudy and overcast but it is a good time for photo opportunities to share with you the sights at night hope you enjoy the photos.
